Master Potter Seminars

Seminar opportunities presented by John Hunter

I started making pottery at 18 right out of high school and continued to pursue it as a career and apprenticed under various master potters in California, Tennessee and North Carolina. As a member of the Hippie Movement I was searching for truth and meaning that seemed absent in the materialistic American culture of my youth. In Santa Cruz, California I found my soul mate Rainbow and married her at my father’s house in Beverly Hills, CA. We took off on a trek to India to find our guru, first flying to England and then hitchhiking across Europe and the the Middle East on the same route Marco Polo and Alexander took. When I finally met Jesus in Kabul, Afghanistan I began reading the Bible, beginning with the gospel of Matthew. Towards the end of the book I was amazed to read about the Potter’s Field (Matthew 27:3–27:8).

This leads to a thorough study of everything the Bible had to say about pottery making, the most crucial piece of information was that God refers to himself as a Potter and that we and the nations of the world are like clay in His hands. This series of sermons/teachings takes us through the whole process of making pottery from the search for good clay to the final glaze firing and use. Each session is a part of the process. Salvation, Cleansing, Mixing, Aging, Testing, Forming, Drying, Firing and Serving; designed to lead us through and help us to understand God’s purposes in every step of our forming into the servant vessels God desires us to be, following Jesus who “did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Luke 22: 24.
